S.O. 967(E). ñ In exercise of the powers conferred by sub ñ section (1) of section 18 of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules, namely: - 1. (1) Short title and commencement. - These rules may be called the Census Rules, 1990. (2) They shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. Definitions. - In these rules unless the context otherwise requires :- (a) ì Actî means the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948); (b) Census Commissioner means the Census Commissioner appointed under sub-section (1) of section 4 of the Act;
