Extradition of Dawood Ibrahim *53. SHRI SOM PAL: SHRI SHANKAR DAYAL SINGH: Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether Government have started extradition proceedings against Dubai-based don Dawood Ibrahim; if so, the details thereof; (b) what is the manner in which Dawood Ibrahim got his passport renewed inspite of several serious charges against him; find  (c) whether Government have traced the whereabouts of Memon Brothers; if so, the details about their location abroad and Pakistan's role in Memon's escape from India and getting them sheltered with its help? THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI R L. BHATIA): (a) India and the United Arab Emirates have not yet concluded an Extradition Treaty. How ever, a request for extradition of Dawood Ibrahim was made to Interpol Abu Dhabi in May, 93. Earlier in March 93, all countries were advised about the revocation of his passport. (b) An additional booklet was issued by the Indian Consulate General at Jeddah in Sept 1989. An enquiry has been instituted. (c) Available information indicates that members of the Memon family arrived in Pakistan in March 93. The Govern ment of Pakistan was approached for locating these persons and sending them back to India. The Government of Pakistan have so far taken the position that they are not aware of the where abouts of the Memon family.
